Have you done it?

The best form of prevention against poverty is education. According to statistics, people who have completed their secondary education or who have entered higher education are less likely to slide into poverty. They are also less likely to become unemployed.

One method to fight poverty is therefore to become involved helping people receive the skills they need to avoid slipping into poverty. Perhaps the kid next door needs help with their homework? Or maybe an NGO or a local educational group is looking for teaching/coaching volunteers?

Education is a resource that people will be able to use for the whole of their lives. Indeed, it is likely that they will pass many of the educational skills they have to their own children. So help members of your community by providing them with one of the best insurance policies against poverty.

The EPP Group in the Committee of the Regions and the European People's Party have joined forces once again for a 60 second film competition. This year, the topic is poverty... Ten years ago, EU leaders pledged to 'make a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty' by 2010. However, nearly 80 million people or 16% of the EU population are still living below the poverty line and facing serious obstacles in accessing employment, education, housing, social and financial services, in particular in urban areas. Whilst poverty levels across Europe vary considerably, some people are forced to live on less than six Euros a day
