Welcome to ZERO POVERTY – a campaign that aims to ensure decent living conditions for everyone as a right, not a privilege.
Our campaign, led by Caritas in Europe, has been designed to contribute to pan-European efforts to tackle poverty as part of the European Year of Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, 2010. It is a campaign for everyone who lives in poverty as well as for those who care about this often silent minority.
The Petition Against Poverty
This is the centerpiece of our campaign. Our intention is to present the petition at the end of the year to European institutions. With the backing of hundreds of thousands of signatures, we aim to push for concrete legislation based on our proposals. Via this petition, we are striving for lasting change.

How to Use the Zero Poverty Website
www.zeropoverty.org has been created as a meeting place for anyone that agrees with the statement ‘poverty is a scandal’. A large part of the website is dedicated to providing a forum where people can exchange interesting articles on poverty or showcase their charity work or ideas via blogs, Twitter feeds, YouTube Channels or Flickr photo galleries.
If you register your blogs, Twitter feeds etc. with Zero Poverty, the website will use a sophisticated method to transfer your source to our site. All you have to do is ensure that your source contains the word poverty in one of the 43 European languages that the site recognises. For example, someone in Italy who has registered their blog on Zero Poverty and who is writing about ‘povertà’, should see their writing appear on the Zero Poverty site automatically. Ditto a Romanian writing about sărăcie or a Pole writing about ubóstwo. The site is programmed to recognise the word poverty in the official languages of all Caritas Europa’s Member Organisations.
In this way, the site provides an excellent space where people can find out more about poverty across Europe and share ideas on how to combat it.
